Moonstone is a feldspar gemstone famous for its adularescence—a soft, glowing light that appears to float across the surface of the stone, giving it a mystical and ethereal appearance.

The glowing effect, or adularescence, occurs due to light scattering between microscopic layers of feldspar within the stone. This optical phenomenon creates the characteristic floating light seen in moonstones.

Moonstone has a hardness of 6–6.5, making it more delicate than sapphires or spinels. It requires careful handling and is best suited for earrings, pendants, and occasional-wear rings rather than everyday jewelry.

Moonstone ranges in color from colorless to white, peach, gray, and even rainbow varieties with blue or multicolor flashes. Each stone is unique, and its color and glow can vary depending on the angle of light.

Clean moonstone gently with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, harsh chemicals, and sudden temperature changes. Store moonstone jewelry separately to prevent scratching from harder gemstones.
